And since I don’t have school tomorrow, I bring you Hook.

I know this is the whole urban legend thing, but helpless girl shrieking in the car is not my thing. This is a little more cheesy horror than supernatural thriller. Okay, the whole rip in the wall definitely means the killer is in the house. Since it likes to kill prostitutes/loose women, I’m guessing the roommate is a goner. I don’t know why, but this one is not catching me. The preachy (literally) father talking to his daughter about sin and drinking is not really helping my love (or lack of love) for this episode.

Huh… the roommate moved, maybe she’s not dead or the target of the killer. It’d be nice. And there we go. The woman who has sex gets targeted by the serial killer. Not my favorite plot.

Angry, vengeful spirit. Meh. I do like the consistency of this episode with the airplane one. Spirits get power through people’s lack of control over emotions. I can appreciate that. Other than that, this goes down as my least favorite episode. My favorite part is the deleted scene where it turns out that the police ID Sam is using to try and run his father’s license plate was stolen… from a girl. Yep, Dean was having fun with his brother by getting him a girl cop’s ID. Francis. “Next time get me a gender-appropriate badge,” Sam demands. THAT is funny. And that is on the cutting room floor.

The first-season episodes definitely vary greatly in quality, while the show tries to find its own thing.

And I can respect that. God knows that my favorite shows still have some clunkers.

Sad to say, this will not be the last episode you feel this way about.

Awwww. Well, the good episodes are still worth it.

I kinda like that the ghost is summoned not by the reverend, but by his confused daughter's issues with her sexuality, after dealing both with her father's sanctimoniousness and his hypocrisy.

Having the girl do it is better than the reverend, but it's still mighty preachy.

I didn't like this one very much either. I think the Francis thing gets mentioned in other episodes and I never knew where it came from other than Dean calling Sam a girl more than once.

That's weird that they would mention that again when most of the scene ended up on the cutting room floor.

I could be wrong but I think it's mentioned in Dead Man's Blood. Oh, well, it's not the first time I've been wrong.

One of the weaker episodes for sure. All it really does is set up the mythology that normally to get rid of a ghost, you have to destroy what ever ties them to this world, pretty common myth. Well that and Dean is bait envious of Sam getting away, but they handled that better in Skin. Used to be listed as one of the worst episode ever on a lot of lists, along with Bugs, but it has been bumped from top spot by some of the howler Dabb and Loflin have written.

I'm glad it's not my imagination. This really is a weak episode, and I'm saying that after having only seen twelve of them.
