Okay, I need some advice. People who have NOT read Gathering Storm, does this make sense to you? I am struggling with that all-important question of backstory. How much do you provide? I've reworked this about three times, and I just need some new eyes.
My concerns include:
I have too little backstory in there so it's too confusing
I have too much backstory in there so it's too confusing
The characters rely too much on backstory and they don't stand on their own for a reader who is new to them.
Of course if you have read Gathering Storm, I would still love your help, too.
