Alex hid his unnatural attraction to men for many years. That changes when the pirate Beche takes Alex after capturing his ship. At first Alex believes his fate is death and the only question a matter of how he might die. However, the longer he is on the ship, the more he realizes that Beche hates the world because it is unfair in ways Alex never understood. As Alex begins to respect this strong, independent man, Alex’s dormant desires begin to reassert themselves.

Beche hates the titled classes and their government enforcers. They might have outlawed slavery on paper, but they never came to the islands to free him or his family. Since his skin is black, society has little respect for him. Beche expects no more of this latest captive, but soon Beche begins to realize that Alex is a naïve and beautiful man who values family and struggles with his own place in society. That poses an even larger problem because Beche does not want to send Alex back to a world that will mistreat him, but he has no place for a lord on a ship full of pirates.

If you guys have any questions, you know I'm willing to give you the raw truth on Beche and Alex, and all their adventures.
clockwork pirateThese guys are growing on me, but I think this would have to be a Dreamspinner book.  Loose Id pays better, but they want the romance up front and they don't give paperback editions. Dreamspinner is fine with the adventure dominating.

The Clockwork Pirate

Alex has never claimed to be the most daring of men, but he is among the most loyal and most determined. He will not leave his sister destitute, no matter what the cost. So when he is taken captive by a pirate, he vows to do what he must to survive and return home.

Beche is called a brute by most, and he cultivates that reputation. He has seen what the wealthy do to those in their power, and he has vowed to break the back of the aristocracy and their war machines and airships. Alexander the young Margrave of Mergau is no more than a pawn in royal games, but Beche will break him as he has other royals. He will remind him that no man is above another. However, the longer he knows young Alex, the more Beche suspects that he is the one who has lost his way.

Three

The pirate rushed Alex through his own ship, where men sat on the deck under guard and gun, and over the boarding plank to the pirate’s ship. The Yemaja, Alex remembered one of the pirates calling her. The name meant nothing to him, but then there were so many pirates that one rarely tried to keep names. Most went for larger ships, though. Alex’s own little Meili was stuffed full of tobacco, timber and spirits, and the whole of it would barely be enough to cover taxes and supplies for Aster’s tinkering.
