Slow Slide to Slave 2
Angel(us)/Xander.
I knew this came from one of my meme prompts, but I couldn’t find it. I went back and looked today, and there it was right in front of my face. (Apparently I’m blind.)

Angelus/Spike/Xander S2 AU (please don't turn Xander)
This is season three, but I’ve set up Angelus and Xander without turning Xander, and I do have plans for folding Spike into the mix.

“We should check the cemeteries and see if someone has raised a demon,” Willow suggested.
Angel thought that was a little naïve. If someone had raised some evil that had targeted the two dead children, they were just as likely to do it in a bedroom as a cemetery. However, he kept his peace. Ever since the Roa spell had given him Harris as a slave, Giles had been quick to attack Angel on any front. The man likely understood the spell better than Buffy or even Angel had. Angelus did relish the idea that old Rupert knew exactly what Buffy had done by insisting Angel take custody of Xander.
Speaking of Harris, he spoke up. “Good idea. I’m down for some slayage, or slay adjascentness, whichever you ladies require,” he said with a bright smile and a bounce.
When Angel had ordered Xander to show no signs of his need for domination in front of the girls, he should have tempered that order. Perhaps he could have ordered Xander to act a little more mature or perhaps just avoid mangling the English language. His only consolation was that Giles clearly found his ebullience even more annoying than Angel did, probably because he didn’t get to take Xander home and watch him happily gag himself.
“I hardly think it would be wise for you to wander around hoping to find a child-murdering demon of unknown origin or powers,” Giles said, and Xander flinched at the rebuke.
“Hey, I’m not sure any of us should be out there,” Buffy said. “My mom is totally having a case of the wiggins over this. She said I shouldn’t be out there slaying, so I have to be home by nine.”
“You’re kidding.” Xander stared at Buffy. “But you’re Buffy.”
“Exactly. But my Buffiness not withstanding, my mom is losing it over these two getting killed,” Buffy said with a sigh.
“Angel and I could go out,” Xander offered.
“I hardly think that’s appropriate,” Giles said with another of those withering looks he had been casting at Angel for the last month. As much as Angel wanted to slink away, Angelus wanted to smirk and pull the boy closer and dare Rupert to try and object. After all, the boy would suffer with his master—die with his master—so there was exactly nothing Rupert could do.
Xander looked at Angel with a sort of resigned despair, and Angel almost offered to take him out hunting if only to piss off Giles. However, Xander’s latest kink for sharing his blood with Angel made him a little too valuable to waste on a moment’s revenge. Even Angelus agreed on that front, and the demon did hate Rupert.
“The spell will affect how you fight,” Angel said, but from Xander’s blank expression, that didn’t mean much to him.
“It could hardly make him worse,” Giles said softly enough that Angel suspected the others had not heard. Certainly Xander didn’t get that special sour stench of shame he did when he heard Giles’ insults.
Buffy gave Angel an odd look. “And that would mean…”
“He will look to me, try to protect me,” Angel said. “He will have to train in order to focus on his fight rather than feeling a need to move to my side. His training and his instincts will be at odds, and that is never a safe situation for a fighter.”
“That might be true if I had any training, but I’m more a flail and stab sort of fighter. I can flail near you,” Xander offered.
“Yeah, I would suggest you flail at least six feet away from him unless you want a repeat of the Labor Day disaster,” Buffy suggested.
And that was Xander’s sour shame smell.
“Surely you have some training,” Angel said slowly and he turned to Giles. The ass had the nerve to turn and walk away as if bored by the conversation.
“Nope,” Xander said cheerfully, “but I’ve watched tons of ninja movies.”
Angel turned to look at his boy—his slave. He had fought at Buffy’s side, faced down Angelus, staked fledges and helped hold off Spike’s minions. He had stared Spike straight in the eye when Angelus has tried playing a ruse on the idiot, and he hadn’t frozen in fear. He’d waited until he saw an opportunity and gotten himself clear the second he could. “You’ve had no training?” he asked, and he could hear the Irish in his voice. “None at all? Rupert sent you out without even teaching you ta fall correctly?”
Xander stared at him all wide-eyed. “Um. Falling. You pretty much just fall down, and I do that pretty well. Generally I tried to avoid gravestones on the way down, so I guess you’d call that falling correctly, right?”
Angel swung around and glared at Rupert.
“Hey, let’s not get out the cranky faces,” Buffy said. “We’re all pseudo-friends around here.”
“He sent Xander out without any training,” Angel said. He knew the yellow was bleeding into his eyes because his vision sharpened.
“Xander pretty much goes wherever he wants to,” Buffy said, “which is not to say that he doesn’t need training, but you know how it goes—an apocalypse here, parent-teacher night there, it’s hard to fit it all in.”
“And training Xander is not my responsibility,” Giles said. “I learned techniques that are useful in training a slayer, but Buffy has accelerated healing and superior strength and speed. Had I thrown a knife at Xander as I often do with Buffy, the results would be slightly more disastrous.”
“There is that,” Buffy said. “Giles training is a little more on the controlled torture side, so I’m thinking Xander is not really cut out for that sort of fun.”
By now, the stink of Xander’s shame was heavy in Angel’s nose, but Angelus had already begun to plot. The boy was fearless. Yes, he was also a menace, but he had learned to fight with no training at all. Given training and the help the spell would provide if Angel provided the training, he could develop into a brilliant little fighter. Angelus could dose him with a little vampire blood, just enough to give him an edge, and order him to grow stronger so the spell aided him.
Oh yes. This had promise. Angelus purred at the idea of a human hunter—a killer of supernatural creatures—who came home and knelt for him, who begged to be gagged and offered his own blood to his master. The image was heady.
Angel had to force his mind away from such intoxicating vision. This was Xander’s life, and if the spell had taken some part of his freedom—and Angel had to admit it was a significant part—Xander still deserved some say.
“If you want, I could train you,” Angel told Xander.
Xander had been standing with his head practically hanging in shame, but now it came up so fast, Angel was surprised Xander didn’t give himself whiplash. “You would. Really?”
“You’re a fair fighter considering you’ve had no training.” Angel graced Giles with another glare. “Given the right training I think you could be quite good.” And after Xander had developed as a fighter, Angel would have to make sure that Giles had the opportunity to see how good Xander could be.
“Really?” Xander asked again.
Angel sighed. “I would’na offer if I didn’t mean it. Do you want training?”
Xander grinned. “Yes. Absolutely. I’m going to train!” He turned to Buffy on that last part.
Buffy gave him a worried look. “Just no playing with the sharp swords, okay?”
“Hey, that was an accident, and I wasn’t playing. I was demonstrating,” Xander said.
“The most dangerous way possible of handing a weapon, no doubt,” Giles muttered, once again insulting Xander in a manner only Angel could hear. Angelus rattled his cage, unhappy at the insult to his slave. Xander was his, an extension of his will and now his training. Giles would regret this disrespect. Angel shut down that thought as quickly as it surfaced. However, looking at Xander he did suspect that Giles would realize he’d made a mistake in dismissing the boy.
“Xander and I are going to head back to the mansion,” Angel said. He looked at Buffy. “Don’t be too frustrated with your mother. She hasn’t known about the supernatural that long. Maybe she even knew the children’s parents,” he said. He never saw the startled look on her face as he led his new protégé out of the library.
He had training he needed to start.

And nice to see Angel and Angelus can agree on somethings or someone as the case may be.

Date: 2015-05-27 01:59 am (UTC)I'm really liking the Angel/Angelus discussions, and the way both As are, in their own way, taking to Xander. I'm sorry we missed Xander first offering his blood to Angel. (Maybe there could be a flashback?)
I'm looking forward to more.

Date: 2015-05-27 04:06 am (UTC)I agree with Angel that Giles should've helped Xander learn a little self defense. Hmm I wonder if deep within Xander that ghost soldier from "Halloween" (S2.6) doesn't give him the idea that he can fight only it's all in his head.

Hmm - that comment about the influence of Xander's soldier memories is an interesting thought....
