I have to admit that I, like many others, didn't think Xander would go through with it. It took the threat of raping Dawn to get him outraged enough to pull the trigger. The quandary of right vs. wrong is one that's practically impossible to sort out, and Xander's likely to never be able to think of himself as a real "White Hat" again. But chances are, with Spike around, he'll recover well enough to believe that he's still on the side of the good guys.
I like the way this mirrors the Ben/Glory issue. Ben had to be dealt with, but that nasty problem of his humanity got in the way. Somebody had to deal with the problem, though. Pure black and white/right and wrong/good and bad are nice ideals, but they don't fit very well into reality, do they?
I was relieved to see more of this. I was afraid you were working on those other ideas you mentioned earlier, and we wouldn't see more of this for a while. So thank you!
