She doesn't mean to put him down. In canon, it felt like her parents were into psychobabble and I think Willow learned to believe that a person had to be educated to be successful. In canon, she certainly didn't have much time for Xander's jobs. And yes, I did see how well F&F did. Never underestimate the power of slashers!
