Woo hoo! You said the chapters would be coming faster now, and boy did you mean it! So happy to see another chapter so soon. Can't wait for the next one.
Great chapter, too. Good juxtaposition between this one and the last, what with all the thoughtful introspection vs the action and humor of this chapter. I laughed out loud a couple of times. Great banter between Spike and Xander - I love the way their relationship is growing. Good fun. And that hilarious tug of war was too much. I laughed my poor cat right off my lap. She was not amused. But I was, so it was a draw.
I loved the humor of Xander and Angel snarking at each other, and Xander couldn't keep his mouth shut for anything, could he? Working in Angel's past with the military was a stroke of genius - paving the way for a totally different arrangement with the Initiative during "Season Four." Good move. I figured you had something in mind...
Handing off the Gem of Amara to Spike surprised me...Angel was really worried about this meeting, wasn't he? I'm surprised he hadn't planned to take Spike along for security's sake in the first place. But then, Spike would probably not have have handled things as discretely as he did if he hadn't know that Xander was at risk, too. So I guess I can see why Angel would keep it a secret from Spike.
Oh, and Spike's way of cheering Xander up? Perfect.
"I may not be a fighter, but I have powers." Go Xander!
ETA: So's ya know...you didn't add a Kin tag to this chapter, so anyone who doesn't check their flist, and just checks your Kin tag to see if you have a new entry (like me) won't find this one. I was just lucky to notice someone mention your NaNoWriMo challenge in the last chapter's comments, and decided to check your current entries to see if you'd made a post about it or I'd never have known. :::blushes to admit I don't read my flist regularly:::
Oh, and I meant to add this when I commented earlier: I'm sorry we've missed Xander in attack mode. I would have liked to see more of that scene. If just to see him show Riley and his General what it means to be a hellmouth-raised kid. But I'll survive, it's a great chapter, anyway!
