In canon, she always struck me as being a sexual abuse victim. That over-sexualization of a 15 year old along with the aggressive nature of her relationships with others really screamed abuse. So, since her relationship with Angel's clan couldn't change what was a simple (if fatal) mistake, I thought that with a stable family, I could at least have someone see her pain and deal with it differently.
