I don't think either shows' premise really allowed much room *for* romance, any more than X-Files did-another show that got screwed up when they went too far into romantic territory, combined with too-specific "mytharc"-related details. The more specific you get with your background conspiracy details, or Slayer-lore, etc, and the more specific you get with the UST turning to actual sex, the less room the writers have to move. *shrugs*
I do like seeing the occasional show where there's no romance, sometimes. Friendships, family, the odd hook-up, and work/life that doesn't orient around being part of a pair plus kiddies, like that's *all* anyone out here in viewer-land wants. What happened to action shows, or cop shows, or westerns, etc, that are about the *case*, and not who fell into bed with whom, as the main story-line? *frowns*
No, Angel and Buffy were NOT healthy together. She was such a girl when she fell for him, and it was so trivial...he's hot, he's mysterious, he follows me around and "helps". What did she really know about him? (Giles, what were you thinking?!) And he put her on this pedestal because she was a Slayer and could "redeem" him, by letting him help her-as if he couldn't go around saving people on his own, without permission from anyone.
Cordelia is definitely an alpha bitch. She needs a herd of guys to ride roughshod over, and take care of. I don't see her as liking most other women much, and given the girls she bossed around in high school and the ones she ran with in the Scoobies, I can see the point. I kind of wonder what would have happened if she and Anya had met, though. Anya, for all of her ghastly experiences and bluntness, was also very vulnerable in many ways. I also have a weakness for reformed!Faith and Cordy. Both Anya and Faith were fringe characters that I think needed more care and attention than they got...Faith is the only one I can see topping Cordelia, and that's only because she would *allow* it-a very pushy bottom, our Ms Chase, demanding to be pampered and adored like the princess she is, damn it. *is amused*
Pardon me, I talk to xanzpet about this too much. *He* says Faith tops EVERYBODY. *laughs*
