oh... oh this was beautiful. Painful and dark and intense and... and.... just wow.

I love how River cares for Jayne during the whipping, helping him center, helping him focus on the lesson he's needing to learn, giving him the marks so he can forgive HIMSELF and KNOW that she's forgiven him as well, caring for him and reassuring him of her regard for him after it's all over.

And I ADORE River's comments about her brother both during and AFTER the whipping.

POWERFUL chapter, not just because of the whipping (which was VERY well written, btw) but because of the emotional explorations of Jayne during and after it. The fact that the realization that his selling River could have STILL gotten Kaylee killed hit him even HARDER than the whip blows... says a lot about Jayne the MAN. He may not be the quickest man... but he's HELLA loyal and protective, whether he wants to admit it or not. Now he's got someone to help him take the TIME to think his actions through. I think we're going to be amazed at the POSITIVE changes for BOTH of them the longer the two of them are together.

And the end. The end made me tear up. "Beautiful Jayne (snip) All that strength is going to stay by my side. All that strength aimed right where I send it. (snip) My beautiful, strong Jayne." Reaffirmation for Jayne that this crazy, POWERFUL woman thinks he's strong and beautiful and is GLAD that he's by her side. He's not weak for wearing her cuff, he's strong... and he's loved. That should help him in those dark hours.

can't WAIT for more, for the "reward" after the punishment, a reward both have earned. Thank you SO MUCH for sharing this.

peace,
the kendermouse
